Roversi’s Book of Dior Images
I started today’s blog thinking I was going to write about one of my favorite Photographers, Paolo Roversi. He does things with figure, color and light that are magical.
But as I began the blog, several photos that reside on my desk under a glass top caught my attention. These are photos among others of my children at various ages, my wife several weeks into pregnancy, past pets, pictures of sponsored African children, an occasional past patient and pictures of myself as a four year old and over time. My desk top had grown a complex and varied topography.
These photos have meaning that does not revolve around artistic intent, color combinations or light play etc. They belong to a different part of photography than does Roversi’s work. They are what we usually mean when we say photography. Their meaning comes from the moment and time captured. The lovely smile, the stare, intimacy shown, the transport through time - all percolate together to evoke recognition, understanding, joy and saddness.
“Essentially what photography is is life lit up.”
