Choices of the Past
When I was in my late teens, at the University of Minnesota, I suggested selling used fur coats to the college crowd for a local business whose owner happened to be friends of my parents. The owner was a furrier. He liked the idea and let me set up a storefront. The idea caught on, the concept grew and the owner eventually became very successful. I was involved for only a short time before I stopped working for the business.
Over time I became more sensitive to animal suffering. I stopped eating meat and eventually became involved with various groups dedicated to animal welfare.
Recently I’ve seen some terrible instances of animals being treated poorly. I was again made aware of how awful seal hunting is, and this memory of the store appeared. I recalled that the store carried seal coats.
Wouldn’t it be fantastic if we could undo our really poor decisions? We can’t. And that is too bad.
